New in v1.2

Walks are better together.

Plan a walk. Share the link. Your friend taps it on their iPhone — and EmberPaws opens right to the walk, RSVP-ready. The rest is just dogs sniffing things.

How Walking Club works

Three taps from "we should meet up next Saturday" to "five dogs are RSVP'd."

  1. Plan the walk

Open EmberPaws → Walking Club → Organize a Walk. Pick the trail or meeting spot, set the date and time, choose which of your dogs is coming, add an optional note (the leash you forgot last time, what coffee to bring, the spot to park).

EmberPaws Walking Club organize screen — walk event detail with date, location, the share code, and a Share button. The organizer is about to send the invite link via iMessage.
  2. Share the invite

Tap Share. EmberPaws opens the iOS share sheet with a tappable invite link. Send it via iMessage — the preview cards show the meeting time, place, and your dog's name. The link works in AirDrop, Mail, or anywhere a URL goes.

An 8-character code is shown too, for friends who'd rather type it into the app directly than tap a link.

  3. Friends tap and join

Your friend taps the link on their iPhone. EmberPaws opens straight to the walk — no Safari detour, no code-typing, no signup. They pick their dog and RSVP. You see them join the attendee list in real time.

EmberPaws Walking Club RSVP screen — the friend tapped the iMessage link and the app opened straight to the same walk. A green You're going pill confirms their RSVP, and the attendee list now includes their dog.

What's shared. What's not.

Walking Club is about who's showing up — not who you are. Your dog's medical record stays private.

Shared with the walk

  • Meeting time and meeting spot
  • Your dog's name
  • Your first name
  • The optional note you added
  • Each attendee's RSVP and their dog's name

Never shared

  • Your weight, health, or stool logs
  • Medications, vaccinations, vet records
  • Your last name or contact details
  • Your home address or current location
  • Trail check-in history
  • Any data from other features

Walking Club FAQ

The questions organizers ask before their first walk.

What information does Walking Club share with other users?
Only the event itself — meeting time, place, dog name, your first name, and an optional note. Health logs, weights, medications, vaccinations, vet records, and addresses are never in the public database. Walking Club uses CloudKit's public DB only for the event invitations themselves.
Do my friends need to install EmberPaws to join a walk?
Yes — Walking Club is an in-app feature, so they'll need EmberPaws (free, no account required). If they tap the link without the app installed, the App Store opens; they download it, and the walk is waiting for them on launch.
What's the 8-character code for?
An alternate join method. If a friend prefers to type a code into the app rather than tap a link (e.g., they saw it written on a flyer or read aloud), the 8-character code achieves the same thing — opens the walk, lets them RSVP. Most people use the tappable link, which is friction-free.
Can I cancel or change a walk after sharing the invite?
Yes. Edits to the time, location, or notes sync to everyone who's RSVP'd. If you cancel the walk, RSVPs are notified and the walk is removed from their app.
Is my location tracked when I'm part of a walk?
No. Walking Club only shares the meeting spot you chose when organizing — not your real-time location. EmberPaws never broadcasts location data for any feature.
Can I have a private walk with just one friend?
Yes. The invite is only visible to people you send the link to. There's no public discovery feed of walks — if you don't share the link, no one sees the walk.
How does the link open the app directly?
Walking Club uses Apple's Universal Links. When you share a walk, EmberPaws generates a link like https://www.emberpaws.ca/walk/{CODE}. iOS recognizes the domain (via our published site association file) and routes the tap straight to the app. If the app isn't installed, the App Store opens instead.
